People more and more look like this on the metro. Staring at their mobile phone, sometimes for a very long time. Or they talk loudly into their beloved device.

Andrea!
This is a wonderful Metrohead! I love the way you have really captured her expression and intensity. Really great painting...
Mobile phones...I have a love/hate relationship with mine. I adore how I can talk with my children as they are walking along to and from school or work. Or when one of them calls to ask if I think it would work to substitute one ingredient for another when they are making something particular for dinner. Or when there is a problem they wish to talk through. And it is really great when my husband can phone me to say his flight has landed and he will be home inside an hour or he has an unexpected meeting and will not be available for the next several hours. But I really hate being tied to the device! And I also am not pleased to hear someone else's personal information when they are loudly having a public conversation. And it scares me to see people involved in a conversation as they are driving. But they sure do help keep families together!
Thanks again, Andrea, for another really great Metrohead post!
Andrea I do have to laugh here at your description of people staring at their phones. What is there to see? Maybe they are reading text messages. I own a cell phone however ironically it does not work here where I live. I have it for emergencies on the highway. Really it's a big waste of money though would be less so if it worked up here. If there is a family crisis going on, it's great to be able to be reached wherever one is.
I have an image of, in the future, babies being born with their arms crooked and a cell phone attached to their ear.
Kim, I love it too when my son asks me questions about cooking. He doesnt do that much anymore as he's probably now a better cook than I am.
Hey Kim and Suki, what a pleasure to talk to you both, actually it's like a "real" conversation:)
You know, I HAVE a cell phone too, and whenever it rings on the metro, which luckily doesn't happen often, I'm slightly embarrassed because it plays, with increasing loudness, "the pink panther" tune and in general I can't get it out of my purse quick enough to catch the conversation...
I guess, you have both to give me your cell phone numbers one day so that I can phone you to ask questions about cooking, LOL!
PS: yes it is usefull, the cellphone, there really are situations in which I appreciate to have it!
What is bugging me is when people are blabbering away and, as Kim mentions, spreading around their private conversations. But I noticed myself, when I talk on this thing I don't pay attention anymore to anything or anyone else, kind of absorded. You get drawn in without noticing it.
Tomorrow I will think of all my American friends!!!
this is just a wonderful little drawing--captures so much about modern life anywhere and everywhere!
Elle a l'air d'une camé du portable! :)
J'imagine qu'a chaque fois qu'elle appuie sur une touche pour écrire son sms ça fait bip? :)
really a good idea to sketch people along the way to your job.
Mary, Hi, thanks for visiting! Have a great July 4th weekend, adopting new habits:)
M1: J'en vois beaucoup de gens comme-ça ces temps-ci, ce portable était silencieux, heureusement:)
Hi Choule, thanks for visiting here and commenting in English! that's great!
wonderful drawing and capturing the concentration on her face.
Suki you need a tracfone. pay for what you need. works great.
Get them at walmart or anywhere actually even on line.
One needs to have one now as there are no longer any phone booths around.. at least I dont ever see them now. Poor Superman. LOL
Your doing great, sketching on the train. Working very fast like lessons in artschool. And i guess this way your trip goes very fast.
Have a lovely weekend Andrea.
Cris:) why does Superman need phone-booths? I'm so ignorant here, I watched "the return of Superman" recently and slept through it, did I miss the phone booth episode? :)
Oh Anonymous, who are thy?
Andrea to answer the superman question, in the old comics anywya and in the tv show Clark Kent used to enter a phone booth in his suit and come out SUPERMAN!!!!!!
I'm not Ophelia, my name is Martine.
Was to fast so i published anonyme. Sorry.
Cris and Suki:) thanks so much for the teachings about Superman:) I think I'd love to read one of those old "original" Superman cartoons. The movie I watched a week ago, or so, (Superman returns) and through which I slept halfway: Superman change into his magic clothes in the elevator, I think, and in the street, just shaking off his suit-blazer...
I prefer Clark Kent:)
Martine Ophelia:) you made me laugh! Have a wonderful day, you funny girl,
love
Andrea
