Monday, July 21st, 2008 - Today I give you a SNEAK PREVIEW on the exhibition I'll have in Germany in November 2008.
SEVEN ANCESTORSPIRITS, on 11.8x11.8 canvas, acrylic paint and paste, fabric collage and textile paint, with a final special varnish which protects and enhance the colours.
These paintings have "grown" with time, now they are finished, completed, after a very long gestation period, I may call this, the spirits are here, they look at us and we at them. Some are clearly visible, others aren't. Don't be afraid, these are friendly ghosts who timetravelled to be with us:)

Andrea these are fabulous!
Sue, oh how nice to have you here this early:)
Thanks so much, I'm so happy about these heads and feel so good about sharing them with you,
love
Andrea
Your paintings are wonderful! I love the warm golden colours.
Annica! thanks for visiting! I see you have a picture now, beautiful Annica! :)
love
Andrea
Oh Andrea!
These have turned out fantastic! I love the colors...many of them so "sun kissed"! And the way you have just held back slightly brings such a mysterious air to all of them. As a collection they work incredibly, yet, they are also outstanding as individuals!
I LOVE THEM!
Kim thanks so much for your enthousiastic comment, I think the colours are this always so interesting effect of many layers and different ways of applying them, as other faces has been overpainted here, two or three times, until the RIGHT faces came forward, I just LOVED the process and can't wait to re-begin!
love
Andrea
Wow Andrea, They are lovely, Great work
I can't wait for you to re-begin, either! Your work is so exciting!
How do you do it all?
(heart)
Andrea these are truly gorgeous. I love the abstracted nature of the faces. The paint application, the textures. I love the way you describe arriving at the final painting, by layering over and over until it seemed right. They seem ancient to me, like you dug them up in some archaeological ruin. The colors are appealing to the eye. Is this the show at your brother's school for which you were making the sewn masks?? You are so incredibly talented. Good luck, Suki
Genie, thanks so much for liking them, this does them good:)
Kim, Oh I wish I could re-begin right now, alas, no time yet, but soon:)
Suki, thanks so much for your great thoughts in this comment, and yes, this is for the show in my brother's school, and for which I did the textile spiritmasks, a great project as I have to fill several walls on several floors, oh if my brother weren't there I do not know how I'd to it, well, I actually don't know how I'll do it yet, I have so many things but they have to be HANGED and put into frames and on and on, arrrg, well, I will worry later,
love, LOL
Andrea
I love these! pjc
wow so much work here. Are you completely done now? They do look like some thing from an archaeological ruin. the colors are perfect.
Will you work on anything while you are there visiting soon?
What other stuff will be hanging with all this?
Hi again Andrea,
Thanks for leaving me a lovely message, much appreciatted. Still more tests to do but hopefully she is on the mend
Jean
it's absolutly magnificient
i am really impressed
Andrea, do these have to be framed, too? Do you know how you are going to do it? Do you find the framing irritating?
Too many questions to ask a very busy woman...sorry!
Love....
Peter, thanks for visiting the spirits:)
Cris, thank you for your comment and questions, yes I think I'm done, I have so many things that I can hang, there will be the Ancestor Spirit Theme with the textile masks and this series here, and also a more decorative, flowery theme with my big textile paintings (about 30 acrylic paintings on heavy paper) and the metroheads as a printed series and some watercolours. Very motivating and I'm looking forward to more paintings on canvas...
While I'm on vaccation, I think I'll only take the inkpends and the watercolour, cause I like to travel light although I know I'll miss my studio, sigh, that is always why I find it difficult to go away.Once I'm away, it is ok, but I don't like the "before":)
love and healing greetings to Con
Genie: I cross my fingers that everything will be fine!
Françoise, thanks for your comment, that means a lot! I'm slowly approaching the kind of painting I always had in mind but only now I can bring it onto the canvas, took me a long time. Hope you are having a wonderful summer!
Kim, I think framing would irritate me here, I like the "one piece", like a piece of clay or so...I like this about canvases, that you don't necessarily need to frame them
tremendous. Have u got a Showroom gallery ?
Thanks Choule, your comment means a lot to me!
Your question: The exhibition will not be in a showroom gallery, it will be in a School (a school for educators and social workers), with a nice vernissage and the whole town invited:)
There are three floors, white walls that I will cover with my paintings..what a joy!
Choule: I meant that I will HANG my paintings on these walls, not cover the walls with paint:), although that would be a great experience!
Andrea, this will be a fabulous show for you I can tell. All those floor filled with your work and all those people coming to see and congratulate you. So many varieties of work too. Oh I wish I could be there to see too. Love, Suki LOL re: yr comment to Cris.
Wow!!!! I am especially drawn to the thickness of the paint, the layers of it, the colors, that give off a feeling too/emotion if you will...They call to me to look more deeply...and yes, I want to touch them...but some are a bit scarey even though you assure me there's no need to be frightened by them. They have a mystery to them.
This will be a magnificant show Andrea, these combined with all those other wonderful works of yours. And such an audience for them too. Will you try to sell some there as well? I wish you good luck with all of this.
And do have fun...standing back and watching, listening to the audiences comments. I can imagine you there in a corner sketching those who view your wonderful art.
Have a grand vacation!
Hope your expo is not too far away, i would love to see your paintings for real.
these are very, very wonderful and cool--i love them!
Ohh !!
Wow awesome! What can I say? How mystical
andrea these are awesome! The last one - with no discernable face - wow...total body reaction to its energy.
The Ancestorspirits are beautiful.
Good Work, Have a great breather!
Andrea,
I've just discovered your blog and really liked it. There's so much poetry in what you imagine was your metroheads' day. I have no talent at drawing so I always find it wonderful to see what can be sketched in just a few minutes...
About the Ancestorspirits, this is real nice work. I really liked the first one. It's so deep and mysterious.
