Poppies - Watercolour Series

Some time ago, a friend ordered a "poppy-painting". When I finally was in the right mood to paint them, there weren't any poppies anymore in the fields (of Paris) and somehow I mentioned this here and Suki and Cris sent me lovely poppie-pictures by email. The time passed.

So, now here are 4 watercolour paintings, size is 20.5 x 15.5 cm (8.1 x 6.1 inches). And thank so much, Cris and Suki, for the inspiration:)

Sue, thanks so much, I love to hear what my friends think of these drawings, as you know, oneself doesn't see the things so well just after having done them...

These are so beautiful and lifelike. I love the dragonfly alighting on one and the pods with no leaves too. Your friend is lucky.

I love these paintings, they're gorgeous.x

Suki thanks, I wonder which one my friend will choose. It took me such a long time to begin these paintings, it was as if the fact that someone had "ordered" a painting made me reluctant to do it! Go figure the human mind...
I had such fun to do them and now all I want to draw is poppies, lol:)

Genie, thanks and for me too, they are one of my thousand favourits:) I love this red, and spent a long time looking for the right red, and thought I haven't got it as I wanted it, only almost.... I guess I have to go on painting poppies now my whole life:)

Ohhh, Andrea!

Let us know which one your friend chooses...I have a feeling the others will go very fast or they will just want them all as series! These are fantastic! Truly fantastic!

Sometimes we do just have to be in the mood to do these things, so I wouldn't worry about that!

Wow! Just wonderful!

Kim! Thanks so much, I love your enthousiasm, you know that, and you are so right about the mood!!!
That is the thing with "ordered paintings". At least for me. I really have to be in a mood and forget that the painting is "ordered", cause then I put pressure on myself... Weird is it...

Your art is breathtakingly beautiful Andrea. I love poppies and these red/orange ones are done so well...I hope you get a good price for them. You deserve it.

Hi Babs, thank you for visiting and the nice comment, I guess all my friends here love these red flashy ephemeral beauties! So do I , they are so fragile and yet, you can see them from far far away. And oh what a joy, to see them in the golden fields, perhaps with some cornflowers! Makes me yearn for such a sight now, that autumn approaches in big steps....

Red poppies, red witches ......... I love them both, but your drawing is the best and very beautiful.

Yes, you are right, Andrea! Painting what someone else wants is a HUGE challenge. I think it is the rebel in us that makes that happen. Okay...not fair, the rebel in ME! :)

These are wonderful, though!

Wow, its so difficult to work on command, but really you don't have to worry.I've prommised myself never work in command ever.It gives me too much stress, although it always went well people loved it when is was finished.

Oh these are wonderful. I love them all but I especially love the one with the dragon fly on it. wow.. Worth waiting for.. fantabulous!!!
I too have problems with working on command. The mind is strange. You do have to work up to it slowly and then you wonder why you balked in the first place.

Martine, perhaps we need red! Especially now, when summer is over... I' like to have a poppy dress like that now:)

Unknown said...

Kim oh yes I can feel that rebel feeling too, but also, at least that it how my mind works, perhaps I'm afraid to fail the person who ordered the painting, but in the end it is as Yvette's experience, my friend told me that she really like the first two a lot, so I'm so happy with that!

Unknown said...

Yvette, thanks so much for your wise comment, it feels good too hear that I'm not alone with that feeling of "reluctancy" when it comes to ordered pieces of art.

Klaproos:) Nice to meet you and thanks for stopping here and leaving a comment, I'll popp over and pay you a visit soon:)

Unknown said...

Cris, thanks for your sweet comment and yes, it was exactly like that, I wonder why I balked in the first place and now want to paint only poppies (my whole life)...

Atomicvelvetsigh, WOW what a name, thanks so much for visiting me here and I love your "avatar" that shows up over the comment, I once had a postcard of exactly this painting of Picasso, (many years ago) which I dragged with me over the years, through many moves, then one day it was lost. Now I rediscover it thanks to you:)

Marianne, thanks so much, and oh how I loved to draw this little dragonfly, I just love insects and they always see them in combination with plants and flowers, they are such beauties!
