Metroheads, Potidou (The Big Draw Day 11 and 12)

I don't know whether I showed you this girl already, she had such beautiful eyes.

Same Potidou as the day before yesterday, (little greenyelloworange pumpkin is right now being cooked for a soup, together with Thyme, Rosmarin, Cumin and a cube of vegetable bouillon)

I draw the lines with inkpen with my left = non domant hand to get some interesting, wobbling lines:), then worked "wet in wet" with the other hand. I will be trying to figure out the secrets of watercolour for my whole life. I worked with a pallette of 8 colours.

This picture is photographed (which makes it a bit somber), not scanned because the size of the paper is too big. It is the first time that I work with Fabriano paper, rough grain, 300 g/m2 140 lbs, 35 x 51 cm (14 x 20 ")

PUMKIN, KNIFE, FIGJAMJAR, SPOON, FIG.

Ah, the little pumpkin served beyond it's calling: beautiful paintings and soup! Looks like you've figured out watercolor to me. I've tried - I end up using it like acrylic so I pretty much stay with acrylic (it's cheaper!) - I do love the intensity of watercolor pigment - I just have no idea how to use it well - perhaps a class someday...

I dont think you've shown this girl before. Like her hairdo too. The potidou painting is lovely, soft colors and almost looks under water itself. MMMM, I can smell that soup cooking.

TAMMY, thanks for visiting, and the soup turned out hmmmyummy:) I added some potatoes and we'll have it this evening.
The watercolour: I feel imperfect. But it is such a pleasure to handle them that I don't care, just go on learning by trying:)

Suki, thanks and yes, I thought that the study is looking very WET, :) I like how you discribed it, almost under water, (to wet the whole page I held it under the running water in the sink...)

I LOVE that Girl.. she is wonderful. Never seen it before.
Your watercolors are always wonderful. we are ALWAYS learning tho. or we would become stale I think.
I must try some watercolor and ink. it might flow better. IF I had the right kind of paper tho.
I missed something. What is Potidou?
I posted my day 12 drawing. Fun doing people drawings. Even old fashioned ones. :)

Cris, thanks and you are so right.
It is good to use the special watercolour paper, 140 is good so it does not do waves after drying:)

Potidou is a little pumpkin, yellow orange green. There are:
Potirons, Potimarrons and Potidous:) and Courges, these are the big orange Halloween ones:)
I should paint a whole collection;)
have a lovely Sunday
I'm hurrying over to your blog

Thanks Andrea, Now is this the name in French? I love the names. Yes you should do a series.
Thanks for the lovely comment on my drawing. I love finding something different to do. It is as much a challenge as is the drawing of it. :)

Cris:) are we sychronised today:) you must be in your pajamas still? No, you are not the type, or which time is it?:)

Yes these are the french Names. I wouldn't be able to tell you the German or English names for these:)
Have a lovely morning,

Andrea, I am not used to you posting on the weekend :) These are both wonderful...you are right about her eyes and as always you draw me right in there beside her. And the pumpkin...both of these paintings are fantastic. I love how you have brought out this lovely vegetable. Do you think you will also paint the soup? :)

Ah, really lovely, Andrea!

Yes, a lovely young woman and a delicious meal below. I like the colors that seem subtle to me...but accentuate the pumpkin well.

I love the affects with the watercolor and your wobbly lines :)

babs, oh thank you for the visit and the soup was soooo good. Husband is no soup fan but like it a lot:)

Unknown said...

Kim thanks:) The soup is almost gone, it is delicious but far less interesting to paint than the pumpkin, or perhaps not?:)

Unknown said...

Lynn thanks so much for your pondering comment, it is nice to paint one's meal before eating it, I take it as a kind of thanksgiving:)

differenceayearmakes:) now that we try to draw with the non dominant hand, it gets wobbly and unprecise, which I guess can be so very charming sometimes.

love this! i will try my hand at some of these non-dominant hand drawings as well....

subtil colours of this kind of pumkin ;o) I knew potimarrons, citrouilles and potiron, in french but not the potidous ... it's the cucurbitacées family ?

halloween is coming nicely... For the rendering of the photograph maybe you could adjust the 'white point' in you photoshop or else, that would rescale all the other colours in accordance to it. Sometimes it works ...
I like the spoon very very much even if it's not the major thing, i think this spoon brings a lot to the painting.

Mary, Hi! Thanks for visiting and yes, this is definitely a technique which brings something new, unexpected, with nice accidents, into our drawings:)

Emelire, thanks so much for your uplifting comment about the spoon:) and I think I don't know this "white point" option in Photoshop, I generally work with "niveau" but here it didn't work well on the shadows...
I'll look for the option tonight:)

I apoligize if I'm not a regular reader over at your blog at the moment, I am in a self-caused sort of stress and have to sit through it now:)

This painting is lovely. Is it for sale?

The soup sound yum.

How to make the soup??????

Unknown said...

Paul:
1) yes

2) take the pumpkin, cut it in 4, cut out the kernels (seeds?) put it in water (water should cover the pieces), add a cube of vegetable bouillon, thyme, rosmarin and cumin (I love it hasuband hates it) and cook it 15 to 20 minutes until the pieces are soft like butter, then mix. Oh was this good! (oh yes and I added a soupspoon of bio-sunflowerseed oil yummee, makes it better)
love and hugs
