What I see "Vis-à-Vis"

Night-view out of my studio window into the vis-à-vis neighbor's flat, including the reflection of the globe-lamp in our bedroom, painted under influence of the Raoul Dufy exhibition I went to see yesterday...

J'adore les vis-à-vis. Le petit voyeur qui est en moi se réjouit de capturer un instant de la vie des autres comme ton dessin le fait si bien!

Andrea this is so marvelous!!!!!!! Don't know your nightview but your translation into watercolor is absolutely great. You painted this influenced by Raoul Dufy? This atmosphere reminds me of Noldes "ungemalte Bilder". Beautiful how you paint these dark colors without them getting muddy.
Grossartig!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yes, very Raoul Dufy like. Wonderful. I love to look at the paint splatters and blots on yr watercolors which give them a feeling of life. I tried this the other day but to no success. Be well, Suki

Oh Andrea, this is another one of those paintings you need to consider as a large one! I adore it a lot...a whole lot!

I can see the influence of the Dufy exhibit, but this is clearly yours.

Speaking of Dufy, I did a bit of reading about him and didn't realize he was a Norman born in La Havre - so in my mind, that explains those blues! :)

Thanks Andrea!

Are you an American in Paris?
I remember the name of a store in New-Jersey was "Vis-à-vis".
Probably it has nothing to do with it, any way beautiful aquarel!

Flashmarion:) petit voyer, va:) oui, j'adore ça aussi, surtout la nuit, de voir les intérieur, mais pas tout, just assez pour laisser jouer son imagination, meubler les pièces, imaginer les livres dans les bibliothèque...

Martine, thanks for your great comment, I will visit Nold next week and perhaps there will be some of those "ungemalte Bilder" you told me about, I'm looking forward to it. It is funny cause I fell so attracted by Raoul Dufy's paintings, espially the later one's, because I find myself drawing and painting with a vision like that...

Soulbrush, they said in the exhibition that Dufy was very well know, famous, and honoured in his time but that today he is not so well know anymore, which is a pity. There were also textile designs he had made for a fashion designer in the 20ies of the last century, gorgeous!

Kim, I had never seen much of his paintings but when I saw his style, it felt like family:)
And oh yes, Le Havre must have influenced him in colours etc...
and afterwards he lived in the South of France too, painted the Mediterranean sea, oh those blues;.

Suki, thanks so much and the blotches and spots, I like it to be like a concert of colour, I do this over the sink in the kitchen, so not to splotch my oh so white wall in the studio, the next day I find splotches on the waterboiler, my coffeemug, the kitchen counter:):) But as long as it is watercolour, no harm done; so, let's splotch away:)

Great you got to the Duffy show. Nice influence in your painting. Love it and the lovely colors. Wow you sure dont have a lot of privacy there do you? :))

Cris:) hi, oh the privacy, well, in my studio I have curtains which cut the view and in the living room we have just sort of veils which keep it a little private too:) and there are iron shutters too, very french thing...

The neighbour who's appartment I was "expressing" here is on the third floor, we are on the 2nd, and our direct vis-à-vis has no curtains or never use them...

Very inspiring, LOL

I love your watercolors - they are so much more vibrant than I usually think of watercolors...I wish I could do them. I just can't leave them alone - overwork and all. If I could this, it would be all I do!
