Poppy-Microcosmos

I will have to talk to you about how these three paintings came to life. I painted a poppy painting big size, with watercolor, didn't like it, cut it in many little ATC cards, took three of those little "cropped" details and painted them "big" again. It is rather abstract, but I still see the poppies, in a way... I'll show you the little cropped cards later...

Cropping is fun and it can really give dynamism to a composition like you've done here! I love the luminosity of the watercolour too! What is it with me and long words today? ;)

I love your paintings and it's fun to cut up a larger picture to make smaller better ones. I learned this is my art class! I did it myself for ATCs as well. Fun fun fun. Your's of course have your polished talented look to them!

That is a wonderful "exercise" - to take a large picture/image/painting, etc. and chop it up and reproduce a smaller piece as a piece in it's entirety. These are gorgeous!

This is exactly what my art teacher tried to get us to do in the art classes I took last winter! I guess I didn't get it, because mine didn't look this good. I love these and I really like the colors you use.

Juicy, Andrea. Sometimes I will look at a digital image of a detail of one of my paintings and think, hey, that's a painting in and of itself. I've thought about painting them "big" again but haven't acted on the impulse. One of these days...

Oh Andrea, this is fantastic. I think maybe you have the ticket here about a good way for you to work. I love everything about these pieces...the colors are delicious, truly juicy! The compositions are wonderful and I am sure the cutting up of the first painting was the key here. The lines are perfect. I love it all! Maybe you have found your working method!

Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful!
