WIP n° 16 - The Earringmask's Headdress

Progress is slow because there has to be done a lot of handstitching. And also because the cord I stitch onto the tissue is curling and stiff. Several thin strings of what looks like dryed grass are curled together to form a rope which has been rolled up like a sleeping snake and thenfixed with a piece of ribbon. When you untie the ribbon and tear out a piece of rope, it wants to curl back into the sleeping-snake position immediately.

I have to consider the stiffness and the curling, when I stitch it onto the linnen fabric.

The sketches picture several ideas and stitching samples.

Whoa. Andrea, this is a very complicated process. I can see why it would go slowly...I admire all of your planning sketches, they are works of art in themselves, in their own right. I continue to enjoy watching you work...;-)

Such patience. I think part of the reason I am trying to slow down a bit is because I am so inspired by your detail work and want to start putting that into my work, which I can't do at the rate I've been creating. Because, in the end, what happens is amazing. Thank you SO MUCH for putting your process out here for us to learn from!

This is lovely. I can really see the linen color and texture. I love seeing your work table with the bottle of h20 and the bluish lights in the window beyond. Yes, seems like your handwork is a slow putting together of things. I like that and that you put things away partly done to simmer under your bed. Handwork of old was slow I think, the embroidery, the making of ones own clothes and so forth. Interesting about the cord you are sewing on. Thanks for showing this.

PS why does this headdress remind me of Napoleon's hat, I think it was Napoleon or some other military hat.
