The Blotch Family - Mama Irmtraud Rabbit

I don't know how this works. I mean, I wouldn't be able to draw this little rabbit as it can be seen here, if I had to do it the other way round. I.e. draw the contours before filling the colour in.
If I did that, it would be some other rabbit, and it would not wear this apron, nor hide it's little paws under it, and it would not have these big softhaired feet or little black nose.
I don't know where Mama Irmtraud Rabbit was, before she landed on my sheet. Do you?

Fabulous.. yes where would she be. You so remind me of Beatrix Potter and her wonderful imagination.

OOOH. The colors so lovely and again delicious names to the paints. Mama Irmtraud (another great name) is delightful. Thanks for the German song you placed on my blog re: colors. Say, I wonder if that's how you became an artist. Singing that song??? developed your love of colors. :)

Andrea!

She is precious...I want to see her home and family! They must be incredible! I love the way you are doing these with the color, then the lines. That gives them an almost private personality. I like that.

Do you have lots of blotches of color or do you place the color and then immediately add the lines?

You know, I think she has come from some of those lovely European gardens...maybe the one near the school the woman takes care of for the children. What do you think?

Fantastic work!

Cris, thanks for the great compliment, I admit I do not know Beatrix Potter very well, only from some images I've seen.. I still have to learn so much!

Suki, yes perhaps you are right:) And the name Irmtraud came to me almost immediately, it sounds so homely and nice and soft, like a mother's bosom:)

Kim, I painted blotches on two different pages yesterday when coming from work and then let them be, this morning I looked at them with a fresh mind and that is how they popped up. The other one will be posted tomorrow, it is very different.
Now, I don't know if I could do a story like that, I'll try. The thing is, when I want an image too much to look like the one I have in mind already, then often I mess it up. Practise practise practise :)
love and thanks so much for your comments, always.

unbelievable...
Andrea, a great work... yes, you're right... if it weren't for the blotches, it would be another mouse... but again this work is the product of a very creative mind who sees beatiful things in blotches.

thanks also Andrea for your kind words on my blog... they really lifted my spirit...

Andrea, you do know how to tease me, don't you? Wait until tomorrow.... :)

I bet you will be a great story teller however it does come out!

Andrea,

I just love seeing what you're doing with the watercolors and ink. This really makes me want to get my paints out and try things. For some reason I am so intimidated when I start painting or drawing on paper! I think I just need to work at it every day! Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Kim, thanks and I like to tease you:) But I really have difficulties to stay focused with all those pictures flooding my mind:)

Nanc, I'm glad if I can be an inspiration, I confirm that it is only the day to day practising which brings us magic in drawing and painting, there is 5 percent sorcellerie and the rest is practise, so don't be intimidated:) love, Andrea

Better than Beatrix Potter!

Yes, I know. She was in our cabbage patch getting ready to hop across the ocean to you and had just packed her apron to take with her, as she was looking forward to fixing crepes suzzette for you and Ms. Doodle. :-)

I love your blotch drawings as much as Miss Doodle's adventures!
You are indeed a great artist and an inspiration. Have a lovely weekend! Love Laura

Laura, thanks for your nice comment, I love to do the blotches and to share them with you, it would only be half the fun if I couldn't share them:)

I think she was up in the clouds!
But you are so creative and talented to bring the rabbit alive.
It looks very good!

Françoise, thank you for your sweet comment and for coming her:)

Marianne, yes, now that you said that, I think the little mama rabbit is a cloud:)

I love the spontaneousness of these paintings! I can go the other way - outline first. Well, actually I've tried the color first thing...I'm just not good enough at watercolor. You, on the other hand, seem to be good at everything! I'm jealous! And I so enjoy your work here! (and I still miss the masks)

Tammy:) thanks so much for visiting and for you comment:) I know you, of all women, can do everything too! so , do not be jealous, it's only a thing of priorities, I'd love to play with dirt and envy you that you can do it:) love
Andrea
