Metroportraits - Heads or Hands

Metroheads:

The young man with his blue woolen bonnet, it is not cold, I think he wears the bonnet cause he is used to it. He rests his hand on the pole and closes his eyes and immediately looks so angelic. I often see this on people's faces, when they close their eyes to rest or sleep. They look so beautiful, harmless too. Perhaps all the really bad guys also look angelic in their sleep?

You must have noticed it: when I'm drawing these people in the metro, I never have time to draw their hands. Its either heads or hands!

Andrea, I love hands, so I am glad you had some here today. They are so revealing about people, don't you think?

Your story of appearing angelic when the eyes are closed reminds me of a story. When my sister and I were little there was an old farmer who would come to the barn across the road from our house. Gail (my sister) and I would always cry out, "Hi Paul" to this man. And he would always walk over to see us saying, "Hi Sugars". Well we thought that was really something. He would always ask us the same question, too. "Are you good when you sleep?" Of course Gail and I would agree we were always good when we slept. So he would give us each a quarter ($o.25) since we were so good. I think Paul, too, knew people look angelic when they have their eyes closed.

I really love these paintings a lot...you are quite an observer of people, dear Andrea. Oh, and wearing the hat no matter what...I see that all the time. Maybe he is bald under there :)

Thanks So Much!

Andrea, you see the hat in hot weather in the city I think. It's cool. Even though hot.

Kim love that story. I guess we are all innocent and angelic in our sleeps. I look at mom's face as she sleeps. She looks so young.

Hands are hard I think. So much detail. These are lovely. Thanks for being the observant and talented you.

Kim:) this story is sweet. "are you good when you sleep?" Isn't that nice to ask this instead of asking "have you been good today?" which implies to either lie or say the truth, which may not be very nice and also may jepardize the quarter!
But this old farmer's question cannot be answered other than with "yes". I saw a shortcut movie in my mind, when I read your story:)

Suki, thanks:) you know what I read first when I read your comment: "you see the hat in hot water"...go figure, and it is not even hot here:)
Well, yes, I think it is fashionable for young rappers or technofans especially, and yes, perhaps he had a shaved had, that's still quite fancy here in Paris, too.

Cris, thanks a lot for that comment which is very helpful too, cause now I know that I don't have to worry about not having the time for their hands:)and can fully concentrate on the face, (perhaps doing hands now and then

Flo, I draw the people in the metro in my Moleskine sketchbook, then I take these treasures (that is what they are to me) home and colour them in the studio the next day, or some days later. I often "dress" the people in happier clothes than the ones they wore when I met them,
thanks for asking,
have a good day

Hi Psychic Edna (I laugh here because of your funny name), I wonder what a "Psychic Edna" may look like, I imagine her a bit like Popeye's girlfriend, Olive:) LOL,
thanks for visiting and commenting, have a great day,

Well done, Andrea! I love your drawings. Like children who look so peaceful in their sleep, they wake up and YIKES! ;-)

Andrea, your hands are good, l tend to make mine blend in with something.
You should do two signs with face today on one and hands on the other and stick it on there backs.
What about doing faces on the metro all day, you would be the first then charge them and you wouldn't have to go to work, lol

Well heads or hands...they are all so well done. To be admired. Truly. You capture the moods of these people on your metro. What a wonderful way to spend that time. So creative.
