When I visited my family in May, I drew my sister in law, sleeping on the porch. I took a picture too and finished the painting a couple weeks later at home, where I had these lovely peonies in a vase on my desk.

a beautiful painting... love the peonie photos too..
Natalya, thanks for visiting:) have a wonderful day,
Andrea
This is lovely Andrea. These become treasures as time goes on. Watercolors of family and a time spent with them. Much better then a photograph I think.
This is gorgeous! I love how you use colors.
Cris, thanks so much for your comment and I agree with you, and think it is much better than a photograph, all the more cause the peonies weren't there when I drew Lovelyn:)

PS I drew my mother in law today, she didn't seem too happy with the outcome cause she considered that one wouldn't recognize her...Well, I guess she's right but that happens when you do linedrawing...:)
Sandpiper, thanks so much for visiting and it's funny cause at the beginning I wasn't happy with all this mauve colour, was I too lazy to do a "real" background? I think so, it bothered me and I had to look for something "else",

Andrea
Andrea, am glad to be back reading your blog again. this morning I couldnt read it or comment due to a slow upload on my computer. Lovely painting. Oh, I don't feel a portrait needs to look just like a person physically, but more in the spirit and heart of the person. The "gist" of them and i think you are a master (and margarita) at getting the essence of people down in paint and color and vibrations. Yeah for peonies.
What a lovely painting and a wonderful way to capture your sister forever.
Suki, thank you for you comment, it feels so good to read you again! I like the word gist! Thanks for that, and oh, how I love this book!:) the master and margerita...
Have a wonderful day, and I'm looking forward to read you ponderings again,
Andrea
Micky, thanks so much for visiting and for your sweet comment, I hope I will be able to do more portraits in the future, but the time has to right and you have to catch the person in a quiet moment, I guess. At least that is what would work for me,
have a great day
Andrea
Lovelyn is very lucky to have you there to paint her. She looks so sweet and peaceful...the peonies soften everything even more. I love the composition a great deal...and of course the colors are fabulous.
As always this is a beautiful painting!

Oh, you are so talented C'estandrea : ) I love the softness of this painting, the expression on Lovelyn's face, the peonies bowing or nodding nearby, like protective flower fairies. I also love your Metro series, so cleverly captured, how you achieve this in a limited time is so admirable, for you can never know when a person is about to disembark. Your descriptions of the people are very vivid too, and full of life and energy, I can exactly imagine what each person must look like and muse, along with you, what is going on with them at the time. A terrific read and visual treat, thank you, as I had such a nice visit ; ) Love, AKR.
