Morning Dragons and Evening Birds

Have been busy finishing a Miss Doodle painting which will hopefully enter a show in a Museum beginning of next month. The painting was finished on Tuesday evening, at the last possible minute, and I forgot to take a picture! I hope to get one from the friendly curator who is a good friend of mine. Miss Doodle will have to appear in front of a jury on Friday and I hope she will show herself from her best side:)

I also finished two new drafts for the children's book, on which I am working, (have been working for quite a long time now), digging deeper into a new technique involving acrylic paintings plus oil pastels.

Two friends gave me an award, which is very sweet, and I'll be hopefully be "answering" to it soon....

Now here's a Morning Dragon (it's not a dog:) who's name is Spikey and it's made of watercolor, pencil and oilpastels. Just wanted to see the effect of oilpastels on watercolor.

This here popped up yesterday evening, before going to bed, I like the contrast between the opaque, thick oilpastel-surface and the light graphics made with the pencil... This is probably something, I'll try to work with on canvas soon...

I must POINT out that this is a wonderful dragon painting. I love the way your other one turned out also. Congrats on the painting in the museum! Two books, did you write and illustrate them? My son is working on illustrations for a children's book.

Artist unplugged, thanks so much for your comment, in fact it's only one book:) It's my first one and I'm working with a talented writer, a friend of mine. We put our combined efforts into this, which makes it a very interesting project. Great that your son is working on illustrations too!

Cris hi, thanks for your comment, I think I just love those oil pastels cause when I put them on paper it feels as if I painted with lipstick and I just love lipstick:):)

love the creative play here...esp the dogon - I know, it's a dragon, but you have to admit it's a doggie dragon.
Good luck on the jurying w Ms Doodle

Wow Andrea! You have been so very busy! I am sure Miss Doodle is going to do nothing but show the very best of herself and of her creator! :) She is in it for the long haul, too...you know! It always helps when she has an investment as well.

I think I love seeing what comes off the end of your brush in the morning and at night! Wow! This is great. I am thinking this work with the pastels works well over watercolor...how does it look from there?

I am very eager to see how this translates onto a canvas....I am thinking it will do so with a lot of grace and with a LOT OF ANDREA!

As always wonderful work!

Love,

Kim

Well, it COULD be a dog. Or a dog-sized dragon. I could keep a dog-sized dragon in my home. In any case, he's cute. What in the world made you start doing dragons, I wonder?
I do hope Miss Doodle gives her best performance. Break a leg!

Tammy, yeah I admit it, LOL this is clearly a dogon:)

Thanks so much Kim, and I think the the pastels over watercolor give the subject a lot of substance, on the other hand, it suffocates the wc a bit, and it becomes something else...

Yvette, thanks so much for visiting, and you are so right. I feel exactly the same thing, as I said to Kim, I feel that the lightness and airy quality of the watercolor is not there anymore, and I miss those qualities here. But it is a nice way to work for a childrens book illustrations for example, where you need strong colours and light colours in a same painting...

Katie Jane, I wonder too. In fact, these dragons belong to my big "blotchfamily", which gets bigger and bigger, and are just practice of watercolor reactions on paper, I guess.
Have a great weekend
