And they bowed to their king

While I continue to experiment and learn with my watercolors, I relax in between and play with pastels.
Oil pastels mixed with pencil, I like them best on paper, smooth paper. The pencil is not good on canvas.
Birds, with their roundish body but rather "graphical" legs, feet and beaks (and feathers), are a nice subject for this matter. Things are a little dark here, that's because I used the camera and not the scanner because of the smudgyness...

And oups, Blogger has pixies in it's polices right now....?

I really like the combination of pastel and pen or pencil. The last picture at first glance looks like some tulips! Then we see the tipping birds. Wonderful.

These are all wonderful birds...the top one has such a good feel to his posture/pose...the second one is fat and happy as well as coy...and the bottom three won my heart as a can-can revue in Gay Paree.

Liebe Andrea,

Whooo! These are lovely Andrea! You are really doing a lovely job with these new materials. I think it is the expressions I love the most...well, yes, even the expressions on "And They Bowed To Their King" :)

The bowing birds are GREAT! They are comical and whimsical! It's the kind of thing that makes you smile.

I also wanted to tell you that I am looking for artists who would post about the inspiring things around their studios. Please see my entry here: http://www.heatherbartlettart.com/2009/03/studio-inspiration/

I would love it if you would do a post about stuff that inspires you and post some studio photos to share and then link from the comment section of my website so I can then come back here and see your post about your studio. I love to learn about the things that inspire other artists that they keep around them every day.

Thanks!
