Just put this painting in the artblog blog I'm participating in: Daily painters abstract gallery
under the title "Sunday Afternoon in July Mask". Here, in the intimacy of my artblog (LOL) I call it "Just got it out of my system. It began yesterday morning. Something's bugging me. Just can't put the finger on it. (don't know if that is the right expression but it feels like that) So, I began a painting yesterday, which fell completely off the patch of grass I'm working on these days. Do I make sense? I mean, I wanted to just free myself while painting and in fact did the contrary. Did a painting which is overcontrolled.

So, today I gave myself a break, did some great walking early in the morning in gorgeous cool summermorning weather, this afternoon ate icecream and watched the 2nd Harry Potter adventure on DVD, and THEN, quickly painted this kind of selfportrait here:)...

I notice that I'm not very successful at giving myself a break am I. Should make that my tomorrow's "Leitmotiv": Hey, Give yourself a break, girl.

Hey friends, give yourself a break too:) Love, Andrea

A break? Like rest? I had to become and old dude and have my body demand rest before I could do that!

Is this the mask or the self portrait or both the same? Interesting and thought provoking as the mood/feelings come through strongly. colors go well with the expression/mood/feelings...
hope you got enough rest and enjoyment...and it was good ice cream!

Hello Dear Andrea! I know completely what you mean. It seems that issue is going around...giving one a break, getting stuff out of your system (you never know what that might lead to, right?) and sometimes just doing things which are making different connections. That is the wonderful thing about art, there are all parts of life which have a tremendous impact on the work we do. (Just like me having taken basically a 2 month break from most web work...feels great to have done that and I am back with some new thoughts and ideas)! So go ahead and do what you have to do to make it happen, eventually!

Hugs to you, my dear!

Yes a break is always nice. I have done that too. I have been painting today. first in a while and am not liking what I am doing. sigh. but will give it time. it is also hotter then blazes out at the moment and not cooling off at nights... going to be this way for a couple more days. ugh. Oh well I am getting things out of my system painting too. :) Your picture is how I feel at the moment. :)

I don't know that artists can give themselves a break. I think art is our "break" when we can lose ourselves and not think about the 15 other things hammering at the door! But if a break is to be had, ice cream works for me! (oh and I have some in the fridge than now, of course, beckons). I am aware from several quarters that artists are feeling this need for "something." Somethings a foot in the Universe! And OH! love your beach works...they are so, well, beachy!

I can so relate to the mood you describe Andrea. Your self-portrait is dark and brooding - good to let those kind of feelings escape into a painting!

Have a peaceful break and we'll see you back soon smiling again :)
