The Northern Light Spirit

I finished this mask today, the Northern Light Spirit. I'd like it to bring light and warmth to those who are looking at it. And peace. Shalom!

Hand-dyed and painted cotton, silk and silkthread, metallic thread, acrylic and textile colours, hand- and machine stitching. Dimensions: height 65 cm / width 57 cm

I am smiling, Shalom!
Do you know I counted the candles and at first counted nine. Then wondered if you added the candles after our talk. Then counted again and there are ten. No, not a Menorah. I am too funny. But Almost. I think for me it will be a Chanukah mask anyway. It's wonderful. And do you know that the stitches in the inner border are just like "free style stippling" in quilting tops? It is. I can't see any cross overs either. Well done. Well done. So darn well done!

Thanks for your lovely comments, they keep me going. I don't know yet whether I consider it finished...perhaps I'll put some tiny little "touches of glow" on later.
Lynn, I also counted the candles yesterday, when I posted:) I had done the basics of this piece way before you explained Chanukah to me. I was almost dissapointed when I counted only 10 candles yesterday:)
But I think the 10th is just a saftey-candle, in case one of the others break, don't your think so? So it is still a Chanukah mask, I like that:)

This is so gorgeous. Everything about it. Your color sense is so subtle, nuanced. How do you hang the pieces?

Suki, I'll hang the pieces (which are rather stiff btw), with nylon thread which I fix on the back. Thanks so much for the comment.

Yes, the 10th for safety, I like that. I am wondering what the backs look like? I am wondering if the stuffing is done like Trapunto?
Since I haven't taken that class yet I don't know how they do it so you stuff but no cuts show in the fabric. I should google it I guess.
Tell me please, the inner border is machine stitched free style correct?

Lynn, hi, I don't know anything about Trapunto?:)
What I do is paint a sheet of fabric, then put it on wadding, and another sheet of fabric and stitch it on, free stitch, yes yes

Fabulous Andrea - I am intrigued about the shimmer you have achieved on the fabric??? I can see it quite clearly in the close-ups and it is really beautiful.

how pretty is that!

Andrea I just spent some time on your Design/Gallery pages. Oh my goodness. Such an abundance of beautiful creations. Such Art. I hope everyone takes time to go and enjoy this.

The clothes are fun! I see you crochet too, I loved the green "sac". And the sea creatures are wonderful too. The floating seaweeds wonderous. Like the black and whites and the colors intermixed.

The Peinture acryliaue sur papier look like appliques waiting to happen/to be sewn. My eye wants to do that. I had a hard time believing they were not appliqued pieces already.

More to see but all deserves time so I will take it in a bit at a time. The strawberry on the white T shirt went well with my breakfast. ;-)
